At weekends I can play for 4 or 5 hours straight. Just jamming over tunes and making up new chord sequences etc. But I never fool myself that this is actual practice. I have a fairly standard warm up routine that I will do BEFORE I start to play which consists of some finger stretching exercises and some string skipping techniques. I will then do a few scales and some intervallic stuff just to get my fingers warmed up. It is a bad idea to pick up your guitar and just start playing. That is similar to an athlete running the 100 metres without warming up.

Collaborate with other musicians. It could either be people with the same inclinations or those with a different mastery. You can still enroll in music classes even if you have been in one before. Most of these training lessons offer refresher courses.
